>Ian Dawson
>Compound 13 Lab, Artists Residency at the Compound 13 Lab, Dharavi, Mumbai, January 2023
An image essay documenting the residency. Dawson worked with members of the Lab and The Horniman Museum London to explore connections between plastic recycling, 3D imaging and 3D printing. Plastic materials of the recycling trade in Dharavi were used to inspire the reprinting of objects chosen from the Horniman Museum in the UK. Residents of the Lab chose 5 objects from the Horniman Collection and collaborated in a remote viewing to scan and view these items before remaking them in the Lab. The residency coincided with the Compound 13 Lab's curation for The Museum For The United Nations GLOBAL WE Project, bringing voices from under represented communities from Dharavi into global conversations about the impacts of climate change. During the residency the plastic trail was mapped onto the shorelines of the mangrove trees on Carter Road in West Bandra.
